In December 2020, Google announced that Google would convert stand-alone Gmail campaigns to “read-only”. Since July 1, 2021, advertisers cannot create Gmail-only campaigns.
Advertisers who want to run ads on Gmail will have to switch to Discovery campaigns. Discovery campaigns are the only way to run Gmail campaigns since July 1, 2021.
This change is good for advertisers trying to expand their reach and test new placements that Discovery campaigns open.
